Conchata Ferrell is a prominent American film and television actress. She was born as Conchata Galen Ferrell on March 28, 1943, in Charleston, West Virginia, U.S. to Luther Martin Ferrell and Mescal Loraine. She studied at West Virginia University and took a degree in Social Studies in Education at Marshall University. She went through her childhood in a Christian family in Circleville, Ohio. Ferrell is married to Arnie Anderson, and they have one daughter named Samantha. She initiated her career as a stage actress in the Circle Repertory Company, where she performed as a prostitute in Lanford Wilson’s play entitled The Hot L Baltimore, at the Broadway. She earned the Obie Awards and Drama Desk for her performance in The Sea Horse (off-Broadway). Her career had spanned for over forty years, and became popular for her portrayal as the frontier housekeeper in Richard Pearce’s 1979 American film, Heartland, and as Leona in the 1988 coming-of-age film, Mystic Pizza. In the year 1992, she won a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in the legal drama series, L. A. Law.
She made supporting roles in films like Network (1976), Deadly Hero (1976), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Crime and Punishment in Suburbia (2000), Erin Brockovich (2000), Mr. Deeds (2002), and much more. Her other television appearances include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Teen Angel, B.J. and the Bear, Hot L Baltimore, Matlock, Good Times and more. Her performance as Mrs. Werner in the 1982 episode entitled Into the Murdering Mind of the medical mystery-drama series, Quincy, M.E. was also notable. She also did memorable performances in the episodes of Sledge Hammer! (1987) and Friends (1999). In 2011, Ferrell performed the Off-Broadway play entitled Love, Loss, and What I Wore. She is popularly known for her portrayal as Berta, a housekeeper, on CBS’ Two and a Half Men. She made an appearance in about 200 episodes of the TV sitcom from the year 2003 until 2015.
She earned nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmy Award in 2005 and 2007. She voiced Bob’s mother in Tim Burton’s 3D stop-motion-animated film, Frankenweenie, in 2012. She was last seen as Aunt Dorothy in the Christmas horror comedy film, Krampus, in 2015.
