John Donovan Cannon, commonly known as J. D. Cannon, was born on April 24, 1922, in Salmon, Idaho, USA. In the CBS sitcom, Cannon made his first television appearance portraying himself as Master Sergeant Sherman, in a series titled, The Phils Silver Show.
Cannon also played the role of Harry Briscoe in a western series, Alias Smith and Jones, which lasted from 1971 to 1973. Cannon also had guest appearances in several films like Wagon Train, ‘Gunsmoke’, The Fugitive, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and The Untouchables. He also appeared in The Wild, Wild West, and in various other films. He was hired to work in the episodes of “Murder She Wrote”, a CBS television broadcast network. In 1991, he was entrusted for an appearance in an episode of Law & Order, which was his last appearance on television.
Later in his career, Cannon began to wear a wig to enhance his roles on screen. In Remington Steele, he portrayed a news reader in an episode, which went on air on 4th March, 1983. Cannon had many a times been entrusted as a villain in his theatrical career. He had been hired for several films such as An American Dream, that got released in 1966, and in the following year, Cool Hand Luke. In 1969, his film, Krakatoa, East of Java, aired, along with The Thousand Plane Raid and Heaven with a Gun. Cotton Comes to Harlem was broadcasted the following year, and “Lawman and Scorpio” was lined for the next two years, respectively. Raise the Titanic got unveiled in 1980, followed by Death Wish II, in 1982.
J. D. Cannon was also the co-founder of the Shakespeare Festival, where he delivered his acting skills in the acts of the production, The Taming of the Shrew, in 1956, followed by the 1961 act, Much Ado About Nothing.
Cannon got married to Alice, who delivered numerous theatrical performances at the Broadway Theatre, which includes Company and Johnny Johnson. She was also the writer of Great Day in the Morning, which had been enacted between 28th March and 7th April, 1962. Cannon met his death on 20th May, 2005, when he was 83, at his home in Hudson, New York.
