Hiroyuki Sanada was born on the 12th of October, 1960 in Tokyo. Sanada's father died when he was 11. Sanada joined the Japan Action Club, organized and run by Sonny Chiba, when he was 12. He is known as one of the most talented actors in Japan. He was married to Satomi Tezuka and later got divorced after their 7-years of marriage in 1997. His Ex-wife has custody of their two sons. He is a Graduate of Nihon University, Film Department. He is a close friend of action icon Etsuko 'Sue' Shiomi. Sanada made his English language film debut in the movie “The White Countess”. At a very young age he joined the Japan Action Club, a training school for aspiring martial arts film actors and stunt performers started by legendary Japanese film actor Sonny Chiba.
He made his film debut when he was 5 in Game of Chance (1965). He has enlightened audiences around the world with his talent, skills to act and versatility in such an internationally acclaimed motion pictures as The Last Samurai, co-starring Tom Cruise, and Yoji Yamada's 2004 Oscar-nominated film, The Twilight Samurai. Sanada has also filmed a role in the science fiction adventure film Sunshine, directed by Danny Boyle.
