Harold Vernon Gould was born on December 10, 1923. His parents were Louis and Lillian. He enrolled himself at Albany College to become part of the staff there. After two years, because of the World War, he left to England, and later he served in a transport unit. By the year 1947, he became a graduate in arts. During that summer, he enrolled himself in the summer stock, and started learning drama and speech. He earned his PhD and masters in theater by the year 1953. By that year, he married Lea Vernon. After his graduation, he accepted the post from Woman's College, where he worked for about three years.
His first theater debut was made from the movie, "The Common Glory", in 1950. He joined University of California, Riverside as a professor to teach drama. He was working there till about 1960. Later, he entered into the field of acting. Initially, he found acting tough, but later, he managed to perform. His first work was, "The Coach", but he has not recognized for that film. Later, his movie, "The Yellow Canary" was a successful debut.
He also worked on several television shows between 1960 and 1970. His shows include Dr. Kildare, Hazel, The Twilight, Get Smart, Hogan's, and The Big Valley. He also acted in several short television series. He has worked in television shows for about fifteen years. By the year 1972, he played the role of a father named Rhoda in the series, "The Mary Tyler Moore". After Rhoda ended, he starred as Harry Danton, a smooth talking man, and a lawyer. It ran for 13 episodes. He also came in several miniseries, one of them being, Behind Closed Doors. Gould received Emmy nominations for his roles in Rhoda. He has acted as a guest appearance in several shows and miniseries, such as Felicity, The Kings and Judging Amy.
His famous acting includes his appearance in Stuart, and Whisper of Heart. He also got a lot of credits for his acting in Broadway. He was the member of arena west for about 48 years.
He died on September 11, 2010, due to Prostate cancer. His first filmography work was started in the year 1969 for the film, "The Lawyer". After that, he had acted in several movies. He also dubbed for a miniseries called, "Whisper of Heart". After that, he appeared in several TV shows. He also appeared in several theaters.
