George Sanders was an English actor, songwriter, author, and music composer. He was born on July 3rd, 1906, in Saint Petersburg. His family belonged to Estonian and Scottish ancestry. When he was 11 years of age, the Russian Revolution broke out, and the family moved to England. He completed his schooling from Bedales School, and then went to Brighton College. He completed his graduation from Manchester Technical College. Greer Garson, an actress, advised him to take up acting as a career. Sanders made his debut in British film in 1929.
After some years, he appeared in Lloyd’s of London, an American production. He was always on call for American films due to his accent, manner, and his upper air. He appeared as a supporting actor in Rebecca, and Foreign Corespondent. His first American film, International Settlement, was an adventure serial. In Confessions of a Nazi Spy, he played the role of a smooth American spy. He also had leading roles in The Falcon and The Saint. In Rage in Heaven, he played the role of a good, and trustworthy good guy.
He however, handed over the role of Falcon to his brother, Tom, in The Falcon’s Brother. In Death of Scoundrel, both the siblings played brothers. He played the role of Lord Henry in The Picture of Dorian Grey. They together also featured in Samson and Delilah. For his role in All About Eve, he won the award for The Best Supporting Actor.

Two crime novels have been published in his name, namely My Hands, and The Strangers at Home, launched in 1944, and 1946 respectively. Sanders first music album was George Sanders Touch: Songs for The Lovely Lady, released in 1958. He married thrice, but every time it resulted in a divorce.
In the later years of his life, Sanders suffered from dementia, and also had a minor stroke. He committed suicide in a hotel in Castelldefels on April 23rd, 1972, leaving behind several suicide notes. Some of Sander’s films include Love, Life and Laughter, Dishonour Bright, Lancer Spy, Love is News, Find the Lady, The Lady Escapes, Slave Ship, Bitter Sweet, The Outsider, Hold The Line, Moonfleet, Call Me Madam, and The Fan.
