David Thewlis

David Thewlis born March 20, 1963, is an English actor. He was born in Lancashire precisely Blackpool to Alec Raymond Wheeler and Maureen and has lived with his parents during his childhood. Both parents worked at his father's shop. Educated at Highfield High School, a state secondary school in Blackpool. Later enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

In 1992, Thewlis married director Sara Sugarman; and divorced her in 1994. In 2001, he began a relationship with actress Anna Friel, with whom he had a child, Friel.They ended their relationship in late 2010. He is often taken mistakenly for fellow actor Rhys Ifans. Friel has been in a relationship with Ifans since 2011.

He had bagged minor roles in movies and TV until he got the main role in the movie, Naked (1993). The film made him won several awards including the prestigious New York Critics Award. Since then he has been seen in many other films like Restoration (1995), DragonHeart (1996), Black Beauty (1994). His most commercially successful role to date has been that of Remus Lupin in the.Harry Potter film series. He also performed in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Kingdom of Heaven, Macbeth and The Theory of Everything. He played the role of King Duncan in Macbeth.

He has also done voice work in the films James and the Giant Peach and The Miracle Maker.He auditioned for the role of Quirrell in the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Despite missing out on the first film, he was cast in 2004 as Professor Lupin in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Thewlis reprised the role in four other films in the series. Thewlis directed Hello, Hello, Hello in 1995. He also wrote, directed and starred in the feature Cheeky (2003).Thewlis is also an author; his debut novel, The Late Hector Kipling, is a black comedy set in the art world.
