Robert William Bob Hoskins was born in Bury St. Edmunds in England on 26th October, 1942. Hoskins is an actor and is in the industry since 1969, and has been a part of various projects. His father is Robert Hoskins, a lorry driver, and his mother, Elsie Hoskins, is a nursery school teacher. He was raised in Finsbury, England, and at the age of 15 he left school and worked at various places as a part-timer. He later joined an accountancy course for 3 years, but later left that too.
Bob began his acting career in 1968, and at the Unity Theatre in London, he played the role of a servant in Shakespeare’s famous, “Romeo and Juliet”. He played as an understudy for Robert Frost in a play, and was brilliant and natural. The 1975 TV show, “On the Move”, was Hoskins’ debut in TV series, where he played the role of a removal man, Alf Hunt, who had reading and writing problems. The show was produced by George Auckland. His breakthrough performance came in Pennies from Heaven, in 1978, where he played Arthur Parker, a music salesman. Hoskins was casted in the 1986 release, Mona Lisa. The plot of the story is about George, a driver for a high class prostitute, who ultimately gets involved in her entangled and filthy life. The movie and Hoskins’ character were appreciated by the audience, and Bob received various awards for his brilliant performance in the movie. He won the BAFTA Award and Golden Globe Best Actor Award. He was also nominated for the Best Actor at the Academy Awards. In 1993, he featured as Mario in ‘Super Mario Bros’, which he regretted later. He said that he was unhappy and deeply displeased with the movie, and said that it was the worst thing he ever did. In the 1988 released movie, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, Hoskins played the role of Eddie Valiant, a detective who is trying to protect and prove that Roger Rabbit is not involved in the murder of a wealthy entrepreneur.
Hoskins was an atheist and was involved in various volunteering services in Israel and Syria. He has two children from his first wife, Jane Livesey, and two from his second wife, Linda Banwell.
Bob quit acting in 2012 due to Parkinson’s disease. Hoskins died of pneumonia on 29th April, 2014, in London, England. People from all over the world paid tribute to the actor, and he was remembered for his great works and humble nature.
