Benicio Monserrateis Rafael del Toro Sanchez a 50 years old American actor, born at San German, Puerto Rico on 19th February 1967. His parents are Gustavo Adolfo Del Toro Bermudez and Fausta Genoveva Sanchez Rivera. Both of them were lawyers. Most of the persons of his family are involved in the legal system in Puerto Rico. His academics started with Academia del Perpetuo Socorro (the academy of our lady of perpetual help), is a Roman Catholic school situated in Miramar, Puerto Rico. He lost his mother suffering from hepatitis when was 9 years old. After three years his family moved to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. Then he went to the Mercersburg Academy. He did his graduation pursuing a business degree at the University of California, San Diego.
His growing interest and success in an elective drama course led him to drop out the law and start a theatre in Los Angeles and attended the Circle in the Square Professional Theatre School. Then he won a scholarship to Stells Adler Conservatory. In the late 1980s, he started to play small supporting roles on television on programs such as Miami Vice and Drug Wars: The Camerena Story. Del entered in movies with Big Top Peewee (1988). He also appeared in the James Bond movie License to kill (1989) as Dario. In this movie, he was the youngest actor ever who played a Bond henchman. Then he appeared in many movies like The Indian Runner (1991), China Moon (1994), Christopher Columbus: The Discovery (1992), Money For Nothing (1993), Fearless (1993) and Swimming With The Shark (1994).
His stardom reached a higher level in the year 1995 after the movie The Usual Suspects where he portrayed the role of Fred Fenster. He won the award Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. This gave him new and golden opportunity for more strong roles in upcoming movies. In 1996, he acted in the Abel Ferrara's movie The Funeral. For his work in Basquiat in 1996, as Benny Dalmau and won a second consecutive Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. This movie was directed by his friend Julian Schnabel. He has also worked with

in the movie The Fan (1996), the role of Juan Primo- a basketball star.
In 1997, he was starred opposite to

In 2001, he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also won Golden Globe Award and the Screen Actors Guild for Best Actor.
