Phyllis Nagy is a theatre and film director. She belongs to America and is also a screenwriter as well as a playwright.Her best work so far came as the writer of original screenplay for Carol. The screenplay was inspired by her friend Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price of Salt and she decided to write after prolific author’s encouragement. It was in 2005, that she set her foot in the film industry as writer and director of Mrs. Harris. she got her screen debut and was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for her fantabulous work.

Under the guidance of Stephen Daldry, she started her career as a playwright at the Royal Court Theatre. She worked as the writer-in-residence of Royal Court in the mid 1990s. Nagy’s plays have been performed in a number of countries. Her plays include- Weldon Rising which came in 1992, Butterfly Kisswhich came in 1994, The Scarlet Letter which also hit the floor in 1994, Trip’s Cinch which was premiered in 2002. She has worked on many plays. The Strip and Disappeared are the plays premiered in 1995. Both were produced by the Royal Court Theatre.
Her recent plays include Never Land, premiered in January 1998 and The Talented Mr. Ripley which premiered in October 1998. She also gave a new form to Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull which came out in the summer of 2003. She directed The Scarlet Letter in 2005. Nagy is best known for writing the screenplay for Carol. Nagy received many prestigious awards and nominations for her excellent works. She got nominated for Primetime Emmy Award for Mrs. Harris, which was both written and directed by her.
The film was her screen debut and received 12 Primetime Emmy Award nominations in total, three Golden Globe Award nominations, and three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. For her project Carol, she received a New York Film Critics Circle Award in the Best Screenplay category, for Independent Spirit Award in Best Screenplay category and Writers Guild of America Award in Best Adapted Screenplay category.
After being voted by more than 100 film experts consisting of critics, filmmakers, curators, academics and programmers; in a poll embracing about 80 years of cinema, her film Carol was categorized as the best LGBT film of all time by the British Film Institute, in 2016. Nagy at present is working on an adaptation of Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. Nagy is viewed as a splendid scrivener connoisseur at developing indelible female leads.
