James McTeigue is an Australian movie director. He made his first directorial appearance with the 2006 flick V for Vendetta which earned a lot of critical appreciation. After Vendetta he co-operated with the Wachowskis three times as a director on Ninja Assassin, The Invasion, and Sense8. James was born in North Shore in Sydney, and raised in Collaroy Plateau, in Australia. McTeigue went to Marist Brothers North Sydney and later joined Cromer High School, which is in Cromer. He finished the tertiary study in cinema at the Charles Sturt University. He first became connected to the film industry in the 1980s, working as a production assistant or a production runner in various Australian short films.
In 1991, he turned as an assistant director, for the third assistant director in an Australian film, named The Girl Who Came Late. In 1994, he began his second project as an assistant director in the movie Country Life, which was based on National Theatre production of Uncle Vanya by Michael Blakemore. His work on this project gave him more appreciation by the audience than his previous work. He also worked as assistant director in an Australian short television movie. In the year of 1994, the James made his first appearance in the mainstream Hollywood, as an assistant director for Street Fighter and No Escape. In 1996, he again found the role of assistant director, with a short Australian film, the American television movie which completed in that year itself. In 1997 he worked as an assistant director for Paradise Road, WWII films, and The Well. In the same year, he also worked as an assistant director for a television serial named Big Sky.
The coming years he worked as a subordinate director for the American science-fiction flick, Dark City also for the Australian film, The Sugar Factory. In 1999, he was about to work as an assistant director for The Matrix movie, until his friend who was also an assistant director informed him about the film had to drop out, which made The Wachowskis movie as he worked as a first assistant for it. The flick released in the same year and became one the most successful of that year. Later he worked for Looking for Alibrandi. He was also part of The Monkey's Mask. In 2006 McTeigue made his directorial appearance with V for Vendetta, which was produced and written by the Wachowskis. After spending so much experience on The Matrix franchise, the sisters gave a chance to McTeigue to direct, first presenting before him a copy of the Vendetta graphic book during the last stage of The Matrix Revolutions. Warner Bros showed disappointment with The Invasion by Oliver Hirschbiegel which was shaped by James McTeigue for an extra 17 days of picturization based on rewrites by the Wachowskis. The movie was released in 2007 with the collaboration of the Wachowskis and McTeigue.
In 2008 he directed the second unit for Speed Racer by Wachowskis. McTeigue directed Ninja Assassin, which was produced by the Wachowskis, and was out in the year 2009. That same year he made an announcement that he would be directing a franchise of the Superman series, by Warner Bros. But there was no confirmation from the Bros, and later the franchise was headed by Superman franchise. He again collaborated with the Wachowskis to work on the Mexico City, Mumbai and few parts of the Reykjavik scenes for their Netflix science fiction drama which was out in 2015. Over the years McTeigue has been presented as director of the movies like Osiris Release, Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan, Alien Sleeper Cell, and Message from the King, Bloodsport.
