PLOT

The title ‘ The Raven Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ might confuse the audience with the movie being based on Allan Poe’s poem, however, it revolves around an alcoholic Poe who is also a self-absorbed and desperate social outcast. The movie unfolds with the murders of a mother and daughter that resemble a fictional crime described in a story by Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack).

When another murder occurs, also seemingly inspired by Poe's writings, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) realizes that the serial killer is inspired by Poe’s stories, and Poe would be the one to help solve the case. It then takes on a personal note as Poe's lover becomes a target.

STAR PERFORMANCES

John Cusack’s performance as Edgar Allan Poe received mixed reviews both from the critics and the user. But mostly he was appreciated for as efforts. Few people also believe that Cusack’s presence was enough to ride the film. Alice Eve has a brief but an impactful role as Emily Hamilton (Poe’s lover).

ANALYSIS

An interesting watch if you are a fan of historical events. For the non-literature fans, this is just another murder mystery waiting to be solved. Few parts that should have been clearly portrayed weren’t given much importance in the movie.

WHAT’S THERE?

The movie has lavish sets and grand costumes.

Quite a bit of Poe’s poetry is recited by John Cusack who plays the role of Edgar Allan Poe.

The way Poe's work was used and the way poetic climax had been set was excellent.

Witty dialogues.

WHAT’S NOT THERE?

There is an inevitable disappointment regarding the conclusion of the movie.

It is too melodramatic, hence does not capture the true historical Edgar Allan Poe.

Lack of depth to the plot.

VERDICT

The movie definitely holds interest however; it does not thrill or fascinate the audience as the posters promised.
