Fernando de Fuentes was born in Veracruz, Mexico on 13th December 1894. He is an extra-ordinary movie director and is highly acclaimed for the movie that he has made. His father was Fernando de Fuentes and his mother was Emelina Carrau de Fuentes.
He earned his degree in philosophy from Tulane University in New Orleans. He worked under Venustiano Carranza as an assistant director when he returned back to Mexico. He, later on, worked at the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C. He took up writing poetry and later became a journalist. Fernando was interested in film making and took it as a very serious job.
In 1932, he debuted in the industry with “El Anonimo” which received great reviews from the public and was welcomed in the industry, the critics appreciated his work. In the same year, he released his second movie, Una Vida Por Otra; both the movies grossed huge money at the box office. “El prisionero tree”, “La Calandria”, “El Tigre de Yautepec” and “El Compadre Mendoza”, these movies was directed by Fernando Fuentes in the following year in 1939. Fernando made El Compadre Mendoza which was one of the important movies in the trilogy series depicting the incidents that took place in the Mexican Revolution.
In 1936, Fernando directed “Alla en el Rancho Grande” which raised the bar for the comedy movies in the Mexican film industry and was one of the greatest hit in the history of the industry. The movie won many nominations and awards and also participated in many International Film Festivals.
It is said that the trilogy based on the Mexican Revolution is by far the best work by Fernando and has occupied a special place in the Industry. Prisoner 13, one of Fernando’s films was about a son who takes care of his parents paying for the faults of his father and his mother desperately trying to save the life of his son at any cost. His other pictures include Papacito lingo, Petróleo, La Familia Dress, El jefe máximo, La gallina clue, Por la Puerta falsa, Esperanza,etc.
Fernando wrote many movies which included Por la Puerta falsa, Escuela de vagabundos, Allá en el Rancho Grande, Hasta que perdió Jalisco, Allá en el trópico; Vámonos con Pancho Villa, Aladino y la lámpara maravillosa, etc. He has covered almost all the genre, in 1919, Fernando got married to Magdalena Reyes Moran and they had two children. On 4th July 1958, Fernando died at the age of 63 in Mexico City.
