Award-winning Colombian film director and screenwriter, Ciro Guerra is well known for his film Embrace of the Serpent (2015), the film got nominations at the 88th Academy Awards as a Best Foreign Language Film. Ciro set a record by making the first film in the history of the Colombian film industry to be nominated in the Academy Award. Ciro Guerra is born in Rio de Oro, Colombia on 6 February 1981.
He started working at the age of 23. He made debut as a film director with film Wandering Shadows in 2004. The first film of his career was selected at the 78th Academy Awards as a Best Foreign Language Film. His second film The Wind Journeys also got Colombian submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards; unfortunately, first, two films are not reached at nominations. One of the finest films of his career -Embrace of the Serpent won the several awards, including C.I.C.A.E.
Award, Best Film award in the International Film Festivals of Odessa and Lima. It was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section (2015). The film is praised by the critics and loved by the audiences. In 2018, he was in fame for the film Birds of Passage. Being a creative writer, he always comes with something new.
