Mary is an American costume designer who began her career at twelve. At a very early age, she started designing clothes for theaters and drama competitions.
She grew up in the Long Island community of Long Beach. The long beach at her time was more of a theatrical center where people only wanted to be actors and actresses out there. She is one of the people who stood for their passion and worked hard to pursue what they like.
After high school, she went to study fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. While studying at FIT, she realized that her interest was not in fashion instead, she used to the story, situations, scenes on which she created costumes.
Therefore she decided to go back to a school, but this time, it was the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
At the art center, she was allowed to provide illustrations at MGM studios. The work was much appreciated, and she was hired by the same studios.
But unfortunately, her designer, whom she was assisting, was fired, leading to the eventual loss of her job at MGM.
For a while, after that, she worked independently as an assistant costume designer until her first movie ‘Secret Admirer’ or ‘The Letter.’ With her talent to convert the director’s imagination into reality, she started to design clothes in cinema.
Her recent film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018) is adored for their costumes. Mary E Vogt is also recognized for her designs in Hocus Pocus (1993) and Batman Returns (1992).
