John Van Tongeren is famous as a composer for films and television. Starting out as a keyboardist, John used to perform with bands like Q. This was the beginning of John’s career in the entertainment field. Following the disbanding of Q, John went on to become an in-demand musician and later on became a music composer for movies. Having worked with Chicago, Robbie Nevil, John Parr, Starship, Jeff Beck, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, The Pointer Sisters and others as a musician, Von Tongeren’s career has been quite diverse. At present, he works at a recording studio in Los Angeles, The Blue Room.

As a music composer, John Van initially opened out as a member of Media Ventures which is now renamed as Remote Control Productions. Being the only three to start, he worked very closely with Hans Zimmer German-born musician Hans Zimmer is known as one o >> Read More... and Mark Mancina. This is the time when along with Hans Zimmer, John composed for films like Thelma &Louise, True Romance, and Drop Zone. Whilst with Marl Mancina, he collaborated on Speed, Moll Flanders, Fair Game, Assassins and Twister. These films gained him the much-needed popularity. Having composed for these big films, Van Tongeren began composing for television series.

He composed for series like ‘Poltergeist: The Legacy’ and ‘The Outer Limits’, nineties revival show, which had 60 episodes of music. The Outer Limits won him the Gemini Award for ‘The Best Original Music Score for a Dramatic Series’ and was seen as personal TV series he worked on. Following the popularity of the show, in 1998, he collaborated with Trevor Rabin on the highest grossing film of that year, ‘Armageddon’. John Van’s career was not only limited to composing for films and TV shows. In the year 1996, John was asked to write three interludes for his album ‘Wilderness’, which John also ended co-producing on. The 2000s gave John some big films including ‘XXX’ and ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, on which he worked alongside Randy Edelman, and the ‘Passion of the Christ’.

Other films he worked on were Disney’s ‘The Cheetah Girls’ and ‘Princess Protection Program’, and ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous’.
