Peter Stein is happily married to Dawn Freer, Film editor, and script supervisor, and the couple has two children. Growing up, he developed a keen interest in photography like his father.

Peter Stein made his cinematic debut in the 1980s with the horror film Friday the 13th Part 2. The movie became a great success by becoming the second largest grossing film in 1981. In 1983, he worked on the comedy-drama Reuben, Reuben starring Tom Conti and Kelly McGills. He has shown his cinematography skills in horror films like C.H.U.D. (1984), Pet Semetary (1989), Graveyard Shift (1990), etc. Peter Stein’s comedy genre films include A Great Wall (1986), The Wild Pair (1987), Ernest saves Christmas (1988), Ernest Goes to Jail (1990), Necessary Roughness (1991), Missing Pieces (1992), Mr. Nanny (1993), etc.

From the early 1980s to the late 1990s, Peter has worked in several TV series, including the comedy-crime film Izzy and Moe, the second installment of Parent Trap series Parent Trap II, the romantic comedy The Last Fling, Desperate Choices: To Save my children and The Con. Besides, movies and TV series, Peter has done several documentaries like the critically acclaimed A Midwife’s Tale, Just Crazy About Horses, HBO’s Laughs, and The Mystery of the Morro Castle, and Tupperware. He has also produced and worked as the editor for the documentary The Politics of the Cancer.

Peter Stein was a nominee of Emmy Awards for Robbers, Rooftops, and Witches in 1982 and Don’t touch in 1986. Peter Stein is also a member of the American Society of Cinematographers. Apart from working in films, Peter teaches cinematography in The School of Visual Arts and gives lectures at various universities. Since 2002, he is working as a graduate lecturer at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.  Peter started giving more concentration to documentaries than movies so that he can stay close to his family. He further is working on advertising his father’s work to bring him the recognition that he failed to receive.
