Robert Gérard Goulet (November 26, 1933 – October 30, 2007) was a French-Canadian-born American singer and actor. Goulet was born and schooled in the Massachusetts town of Lawrence. He gained rapid notoriety with his performance and interpretation of the song If Ever I Would Leave You, which became his hallmark song in the 1960 Broadway musical Camelot, in which he starred opposite veteran Broadway stars Richard Burton Richard Burton is a Welsh stage actor who was amon >> Read More... and Julie Andrews “The Sound of Music” this could be the most well-k >> Read More... . His role in Camelot heralded the start of a long career on stage, in cinema, and in studio. His career extended over six decades and earned him Grammy and Tony Awards. The Kenley Players were Goulet's first American bookings in summer stock theatre.

Pajama Game (1959), Bells Are Ringing (1959), Dream Girl (1959), South Pacific (1960), Meet Me in St. Louis (1960), and Carousel (1960) were among his eight-film roles. In 1959, Goulet was introduced to Alan Jay Lerner, the librettist, and Frederick Loewe, the composer, who were having trouble casting Lancelot in their stage musical Camelot, who immediately cast Goulet, taken away by his talent. In October 1960, Camelot premiered in Toronto and had a four-week run in Boston before transferring to Broadway two months later. Goulet's music was well acclaimed, especially his show-stopping romantic ballad- If Ever I Would Leave You, which became his signature piece.

Following the run of Camelot, Goulet made appearances on The Danny Thomas Show and The Ed Sullivan Show, establishing him as a household figure in the United States. On May 25, 1965, at the start of the second Muhammad Ali-Sonny Liston heavyweight championship fight in Lewiston, Maine, Goulet bungled the lyrics to the United States National Anthem in front of the smallest crowd in a heavyweight championship- 2500 people. In 1966, Goulet starred in the television series Blue Light, in which he played a journalist working as a spy for the Allies undercover in Nazi Germany.

I Deal in Danger, a theatrical feature starring Goulet that was made up of the first four episodes of Blue Light put together, was released in December 1966.
