Charles Kimbrough is an actor and voice-over artist of American origin born on 23rd May 1936. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. Between 1960 and 1970, he and his first wife Mary Jane were part of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre Company, where they starred in plays such as Cat Among the Pigeons and The White House Murder Case. In 1971, he received a Tony nomination for his role as Harry in Stephen Sondheim's Company. In the year 1984, he performed in the original Broadway cast of Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George and in 1985 he starred in the original Off-Broadway production of A.R. Gurney's comedy Sylvia. He also appeared in a Chef Boyardee commercial in the mid-70s.

Charles rose to fame playing the veteran news anchor Jim Dial on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown Murphy Brown is an American tv series premiered on >> Read More... from 1988 to 1998, earning an Emmy nomination in 1990. He is also recognized for his voice acting as Victor in Disney's animated feature The Hunchback of Notre Dame and its sequels. In 2012, he was part of the Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway revivals of Mary Chase’s play Harvey, playing Dr. Chumley. He was married to actress Beth Howland and they both studied theatre and drama at Indiana University and Yale University's School of Drama. Kimbrough's son John was a founding member of the alternative rock band Walt Mink. Kimbrough reprised his role as Jim Dial in the 2018 revival of Murphy Brown for a multi-episode arc.

His wife, Beth Howland, died of lung cancer in 2015. His work includes movies The Good Mother, It’s My Turn, Whisper of the Heart, The Wedding Planner, The Front, Starting Over, Marci X, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and many more. His voice has been a part of many video games like Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and Disney’s Animated Storybook: The Hunchback of Notre Dame. His work on television includes Murphy Brown, Another World, For Ladies Only, Kojak, Spenser: For Hire, Dinosaurs, Love Boat: The Next Wave, Mighty Max, The Zeta Project, Hothouse, and many more.
