Director Gokul has yet again come out with a quality movie. The movie, Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, has Vijay Sethupathi in it. He plays the role of Sumaar Moonji Kumar, who is no ordinary face in the movie. He has proved his mettle in delivering his role to near perfection. He did roles in a series of hit movies, and this movie is no exception. It has drawn huge number of audiences to the theaters.
The movie is about how lives of different people intertwine following a murder in a wine shop. Vijay Sethupathy plays the role of Sumaar Moonji Kumar in the movie. He has been projected as an alcoholic who spends most of the time in a wine shop. He is in love with Nanditha, but the love is not reciprocated by Kumudha. The heroine’s father wants to teach a good lesson to Kumar, so he hires Pasupathi, a local thug, to evict Kumar. There is yet another subplot in the movie that shows Ashwin, a bank employee. Like Vijay Sethupathi, he is also an alcoholic. M. S. Bhaskar plays Ashwin’s boss in the movie. Swathi Reddy plays the character of his possessive lover in the movie. During the night of a fateful day, there was a murder in a wine shop, which happens to be the reason these main characters cross paths with each other.
Vijay Sethupathi’s main asset is that he is not confined to any clichéd characters. He just goes along with the story. He comes up with different attires and looks in every one of his movies. He has done the role of an alcoholic to near perfection. The dazed look comes to him very naturally. Ashwin has competed with Vijay Sethupathi in terms of performance, and projects a typical alcoholic on the screen. Nanditha and Swathy add to the glamour of the movie. Other supporting actors like M. S. Bhaskar and Soori give a wonderful performance.
Although the movie has subplots, it does not confuse the audience. The dialogues are witty and prove to be one more star to the movie. The narration of the story is down to earth, and the characters in the movie are of those people we come across in our everyday lives. The first half of the movie takes some time for the audience to settle in. The first half shows Kumar goofing around, and the real story sets in a bit later.
