V. S. Ragavan is a famous Tamil film and television actor. He was born on 1925 in Vembakkam Village in Kanchipuram, Chennai.  He initiated his career as a dramatist and usually performed in stage plays. In 1954, he was debuted as a film actor in Vaira Maalai and made more than 1000 films and acted in various TV serials.

He spent his childhood days in Kanchipuram and subsequently, he moved to Mylapore in Chennai. From there, he went to P. S. Senior Secondary School to study. Then he continued his studies at the St. Columba’s Hr. Sec School in Chengalpet and the last two years of his studies were made in Madras Christian College in Tambaram, Chennai. But as V. S. Ragavan finished his schooling, his father died which made her mother decide to go back to their native village where her sister resides at Velala Street in Purasawakkam, Chennai.

In 1942, he worked in the Malathi Magazine as sub-editor and when the company closes, he worked in a printing press. From there, some of the workers are performing in an amateur stage plays and this made him performed in few Hindi stage plays. Prior to that, he also acted in Vaira Maalai in 1954, an YMIA Fine Arts Theatre Group Play which was played in YMCA. Subsequently, the play was adapted into a movie and he acted the same character which is also his debut film in 1954. From the same year, V. G. Ragavan was debuted as a dramatist and initiated the INA or Indian National Artists along with his friends K. Balachander, Vadiraj, Malli and Nataraj. The renowned director, K. Balachander who has received many honors and awards for doing notable films is one of the members of the troupe. He is also the script writer of INA. After ten years, they have decided to close the INA troupe and from that time, Ragavan started doing supporting roles in the cinema world. He became famous for appearing in K. Balachander’s television serial, Anni.

Nizhalgal Ravi

Nizhalgal Ravi is a veteran actor in TV serials and films and has acted in hundreds of movies alongside the greatest of actors in the industry. Born on April 16, 1956, he first started out under legendary director Bharathiraja in ‘Nizhalgal’ which later stuck on to his name because of the instant hit with people. He has played many impressive roles in blockbuster movies like Vedam Puthithu, Nayakan, Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi, etc. His versatility has won him praises from all over the industry and from people. He has acted in over 20 movies in Malayalam in the 80s before moving into mainstream Tamil movies. He completed his Bachelor of Arts majoring in economics from PSG Arts College. He then acted in K Balachander’s telefilm ‘Rail Sneham’ in the late 80s and 90s. He became popular through this opportunity and went on to act in the same director’s TV serial ‘Jannal’. His performance in ‘Jannal’ is considered as one of the best on television and he received plaudits from one and all. He then went on to play the caring husband, evil villain, second hero, etc. in many movies and even comedian at times. His notable films include Indian where he played a corrupt official, Budget Padmanabhan, Dhaam Dhoom, Thaamirabharani, Citizen, Kushi, Attagasam, Singam, etc. Recently he has played cameo and supportive roles in movies like Vanakkam Chennai, Osthe, Aadu Puli, Kaavalan, etc.  He is also a seasoned voice artist having dubbed for many actors. Notably, he voiced for Amitabh Bachchan in the Tamil dubbing of Kaun Banega Crorepati in its second season. Ravi was surprised and considered it an honor to have dubbed for Amitabh Bachchan and said his voice almost matched his voice when he dubbed early in the morning. He also dubbed for Nana Patekar in the movie Bommalattam. He also has narrated an audiobook of the ‘Manase Relax Please’ book by Swami Sukhabodhananda. He is married to Vishnupriya and they have a son Rahul.


Ajay Rathnam

Ajay Rathnam is a Tamil cine actor who also appears in TV serials and movies. He is known for his supportive and negative roles and has acted in over 300 movies. Ajay Rathnam first starred in the movie ‘Nalaya Manithan’ in 1989. His role was appreciated in that movie and he started appearing in negative roles mostly. Owing to his height and his physique, he got roles of a cop in many movies. Ajay’s roles in ‘Indian’ and ‘ Kuruthipunal’ were widely appreciated and the movies too did well at the box office. He also starred in a few Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada movies in such roles. He was even cast as the hero in the Kannada movie ‘KA-99 B-333’ which was the remake of a Hindi movie starring Nana Patekar. He did an important role of Hindu God ‘Karuppasamy’ in Naga’s supernatural thriller serial ‘Marmadesam’. His sequences constituted the serial’s title song. He acted in the renowned serials of ‘ Chithi’, ‘ Annamalai’ and ‘ Arasi’, all casting Radhika Sarathkumar. In 2011, he hosted a show called ‘ Mun Jenmam’ on Vijay TV which was about unravelling the mysteries of the guest celebrities’ previous lives and connecting them with their presents’ problems. It was aired on TV in late 2011 and could not proceed more than 1 season. Ajay Rathnam now has several movies in hand, mostly does supporting and sometimes negative roles. He acted in a controversial role of ‘Capt. Prabakaran’, LTTE Chief in the movie ‘ Madras Cafe’. He also lends his voice for some English-Tamil dubbed movies.
