Plot
The movie starts with an old man narrating his love story to children in a temple. The story moves to a flashback. Thekkedathu Ramankutty (Dileep) is a wedding planner. He is organizing the wedding of Radhika (Jyothirmayi). There he meets Gauri (Navya Nair), Radhika's sister and daughter of Ambattur Thampi (Lalu Alex). Eventually, they both fall in love. Radhika's fiancee ditches her on the wedding day, and Thekkedathu comes to the rescue by suggesting the name of his brother Dr. Sivadas (Bobby Alumoodan) to marry Radhika on the planned date. But the plans go awry as Radhika dies in a fire accident. Later when Thekkedathu and Gauri are set to get hitched, a similar incident happens when Gauri suffers an electric shock. Gauri's father then learns from an astrologer Me Patti Thirumeni (Thilakan) that Thekkedathu family possesses a curse, and the girl marrying in that family will die young. Thampi forces Thekkedathu to refuse for the marriage and leaving Gauri devasted. But later Gauri learns the truth and in search of Thekkedathu, she meets with an accident but surprisingly survives.
Analysis
lthough there is no problem with Shafi's direction, he and the scriptwriter have tried to play safe by keeping the movie as simple as possible. They haven't taken any risk to add few more elements to make the story more enjoyable. The camerawork deserves appreciation for capturing beautiful sceneries. Rest of the departments, be it acting, editing, cinematography have worked as positives for the movie. But the story is quite predictable when even before the interval the audiences knew what will happen.
Star Performances
Dileep is an all-time star and has been fantastic here too. He has the big chunk of screen space to face, and he has done it with brilliance. The female lead, Navya, is only a few movies old, but she has also done her role beautifully although she has some rough patches in her acting. But her effort can’t be ignored. The supporting actors have also done their assigned characters as required. But the story played the foul play by being so simple.
What's there ????
1. Acting performances of Dileep and Navya are surely a plus.
2. Music of the movie is also appealing.
3. Humor elements have worked wonders.
4. Technicians have done their job well to lift the story.
What's not there ????
1. The storyline is predictable as we know from the starting what the climax would serve us.
2. Script and dialogues are at par and could have been better.
Verdict
'Kalyanaraman' is a fun movie and the wedding celebration scenes add to the feel good factor. It has a few elements which make it enjoyable. Audiences can relish a simple, sweet love story.
