Another tussle fizzled out even before it could become a major crisis.
As mentioned before, Malayalam films were unofficially banned by the PVR INOX multiplexes. This was because the multiplexes had a tiff with the Kerala film exhibitors over the digital rights.
Following the tussle between the exhibitors and the multiplexes, films like ‘Aavesham’, ‘Varshangalkku Sesham’ and ‘ Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh is an Indian television actor who works >> Read More... ’ did not find any screens in the multiplexes of PVR and INOX. To make matters worse, even the dubbed versions of films like ‘Manjummel Boys’ and ‘Aadujeevitham’ were unceremoniously ripped off from the movie screens.
However, following the intervention of entrepreneur MA Yusuff Ali, the exhibitors have relented, and so have the multiplexes. According to the latest reports, the General Secretary of Film Employee Federation of Kerala, B Unnikrishnan has reported that PVR INOX has withdrawn the unofficial ban on the Malayalam movies.
This is not the first time that Malayalam movies suffered a roadblock. Only a couple of months ago, the film exhibitors of Kerala refused to screen any Malayalam movie due to the alleged of preference of OTT over the theatrical release. However, with the intervention of actor Dileep, the issue was revolved quickly.
