Plot

"Kaattu Vithachavar" is a gripping political thriller set during the 21 months of the National Emergency in Kerala from 1975 to 1977. The film follows the disappearance of P Rajan, a student arrested and allegedly tortured by the state for his political beliefs. His father, Eachara Warrier, leads a historic crusade for justice, causing unprecedented turmoil in Kerala politics. Post-Emergency, Kerala DIG Rajgopal Narayan investigates police misconduct, seeking the truth behind Rajan's fate. The film sheds light on a dark chapter in Kerala's history, portraying a society's rebellion against oppression, social disparities, and human rights violations.

Star Performance

Tini Tom and Prakash Bare did an excellent job and delivered what was needed.

Analysis

First and foremost, if we talk about the film’s storyline and direction, Satheesh Paul, did an excellent job in both fields. He took a step forward in directing techniques and used a creative and unique vision in showcasing a good storyline. The storyline is generic, and the audience has seen many movies with the same ideology as this film, but Satheesh Paul made it look different, which is a good thing. However, still, he was unable to make it surprising for the audience, as the audience occasionally was able to predict the plot twists quite easily.

Now, if we talk about the film’s acting department, then this film performs well in that area. Most of the cast was experienced and knew their work, and among them, Tini Tom and Prakash Bare did a pretty good job and delivered what was needed. The rest of the cast sometimes failed to meet the audience's expectations and reach the threshold required to make their character come to life.

Now, if we talk about the film’s music department, then Sachin Balu and Pramod Cheruvath couldn’t provide the kind of music necessary to make this film worth a watch. The music was so out of sync with the film’s action, sad, and building-up sequences that it started to irritate the audience. The music is below average and does not make the audience feel the emotion of the line going on the screen. Rather, it makes the audience leave the theatre or watch the film without the music.

Now, if we talk about the film’s cinematography, then Shibu Attukal and Joby James both did an okay job. The film’s action and some other shots seem choppy, and the technique of using quick cuts in a scene can be seen clearly. Though some of the scenes were visually stunning, the audience immensely enjoyed it.

What’s There?

• The storyline of the film is interesting.

• The acting department of the film is a plus point.

What’s Not There?

• The music in the film is terrible.

• The film’s storyline becomes predictable at times.

• The cinematography of the film is weak at times.

Verdict

The film is for people who want to enjoy a generic storyline, but with an attractive and creative vision taken by the makers. Also, the film’s acting department is excellent. However, one point should be taken under notice that the storyline becomes predictable at times. Also, if music and cinematography in a film are something that matters to you, then this film is not for you.
