Mollywood’s Golden Era Under Threat?

Looks like the drug problem is not limited to Bollywood.

Khalid Rahman is well known for making movies like Unda, Love, Thallumaala etc. He recently directed the sports drama Alappuzha Gymkhana, which is a certified box office success, with a worldwide collection of over 68 crores on a budget of just 12 crores.

The Film Employees Federation of Kerala have taken note of the incident, suspending both Khalid and Ashraf until further notice. However, this is not the first time Mollywood has been caught in the crossfire of such incidents. He had escaped a drugs bust  conducted by authorities in a hotel in Kochi.

Apart from the above, Mollywood has been under fire for promoting movies like L2: Empuraan, which was criticized for its one sided take on the 2002 Gujarat tragedy. Though the movie earned above 260 crores on a budget of 180 crores, it is far from being called a clean box office hit!
