Thudarum is an action thriller starring Mohanlal and Shobana in the lead roles. This was the first the duo was working on a single Malayalam movie after more than 15 years. The movie is made on a budget of 90 crores, and as such an opening weekend collection of 68 crores worldwide is nothing less than impressive, especially after the forgettable venture that was L2: Empuraan.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan aimed to extend the legacy of Lucifer, which released in 2019. However, the movie was criticized for its ludicrous take on the 2002 Gujarat riots, due to which the makers had to chop off 17 scenes after massive backlash.

The movie barely managed to make a significant impact at the box office, earning a little above 260 crores worldwide over a budget of 180 crores. The domestic collections were much worse, as the movie earned just above 110 crores in terms of net domestic collections.
