CAST & CREW
MORE CAST & CREW
Intro: It has every bit of rom-com that is required, large party, a drive to the airport, a squad of friends, kinfolk, and co-workers, classic rock in the background. The movie hits dutifully on the mark of its genre, the predictability of course! In a modern romantic comedy, an intelligent audience has a pretty good idea of what to expect. The movie depicts fluctuations of life and everyday confrontation of love, which is admirable. The delicacy and honesty shown in this flick are a delightful surprise.
Plot: Now, coming to the plot, the flick starts with Tom proposing to his girlfriend, Violet. Tom plans many surprises that are ruined by his clumsy eagerness and Violet's persistent curiosity. But, Tom proposes and Violet says Yes! SPOILER? Hell no! So far, so good. But then a chunk of stuff occurs, including another couple's marriage, which happens to be Tom's best friend Alex and Violet's sister, Suzie. And smattering funerals. It lags their hymeneal and tests their vow. But engagement happens, either way, but not a wedding, mind you! Violet is a research psychologist, who wins a fellowship at the University of Michigan. So, Tom, a forthcoming chef leaves his career at San Francisco to move with her. There he gets a job at Zingerman's. While they're close yet apart, Violet becomes a part of a research group directed by a charming professor Winton Childs. Tom focuses on his career. But then, events unfold. Violet gets drunk with Winton at a bar and goes so high that they kiss, which Violet instantly regrets. So sanskaari of her, no? SurajBarjatya, what's up? She runs back to Tom and pleads him to marry as soon as possible. Tom instantly agrees. But Violet insists on telling him what happened in the bar. Tom's blood boils like that of Dharmendra's in Sholay. But this time, Basanti danced on her own. Jokes apart, Winton apologizes but Tom is hard to convince. He gets high and wakes up half naked in the snow, with a frostbitten toe. Violet visits him in the hospital before they call off their engagement once they arrive home. Tom moves back to San Francisco, launches his franchise and gets into a relationship with a hostess named Audrey. To the guys who want to go on, take notes from Tom. Back in Michigan, Violet and Winton get into a relationship and break up soon after. Same happens with Tom. Then the ending, Violet's grandparent dies during the summer. Tom shows up at the funeral in England, and they rekindle their relationship. Violet gets back with Tom in San Francisco while they work side by side in Tom's Taco Truck. While driving Violet to the airport, Violet proposes and then? A big fat feast! WEDDING! Tada! A happy ending in a Hollywood flick. It happens to be a very unlikely ending in a movie.
Review: Mr. Segel and Ms. Blunt, to their great credit, are funny as well as genial. The film gets boring when they're apart. Their separate stories are absurd. But the movie ends well. The film makes light its two-hour length, thanks to an exceptionally strong cast. The leads do outstanding work! Emily Blunt Emily Blunt, also known as Emily Olivia Leah Blunt >> Read More... , investing Violet with a warmth and humor that feels quite spontaneous! She has a great laugh too. Jason Segel Jason Segel born to a rich Jewish lawyer, he spent >> Read More... , Hollywood's most favorite Mr. Nice guy, projects just the right amount of decency as Tom.
Verdict: A light touch to the modern rom-com. Predictable, yet entertaining. Lovebirds in an anticipated pickle are the word.
