Happiness Is a South African romantic comedy written by Duduzile, Zamantungwa, Mabaso, and Thuso Sibisi, directed by Nthabiseng Mokoena and Naledi Ya Naledi and distributed by Netflix. The film is the third instalment of the successful films Happiness Is A Four Letter Word (2016) and Happiness Ever After (2021). Thami Minsi and Phumlani Ngwenya handled the camera and electrical department, Pierre Vienings was incharge of the costumes. The film stars Anton David Jeftha, Richard Lukunku, Gail Mabalane, Sivuyile Ngesi, Phaphama Nqabeni, Renate Stuurman, OC Ukeje, and Rosemary Zimu.
Plot
Turning 40 was an understated event for Princess, but when her BFF throws her an unforgettable party, her entire world is upside down.
Star Performance
Honestly, the actors are the only saving grace in this film. Renate Stuurman has such a fantastic voice. The rest of the actors have done their job convincingly.
Analysis
This film will make you question your friendships in a bad way, Princess wants to be alone on her birthday, and what does her best friend do by literally shifting the venue to where she is ruining her all by herself plan. The film is bad from direction to writing everything is messed up. The film has a soap opera-like plot, which deteriorates as it goes. Is this really how friendship is between the 35-40 ages demographic? Princess is visibly annoyed at the party but she is not saying anything, I mean it's your house you can ask them to get out but no, even the conflicts are so childish you wouldn’t be interested in them. The way the film is shot is bland; the outside locations are captured like a tourism ad, and the indoor scenes are tacky. Looking at the crew, actors, and costumes, you can assume this film has a big budget despite the fact that the film fails to deliver anything except the conviction of the actors to their respective roles even they can’t save this sinking ship. ‘Happiness Is’ is a solid downgrade to its predecessors. It's a film that you can just put on TV when you’re doing household chores without paying attention.

‘Happiness Is’ is a huge downer from its predecessors from storytelling to the sub-plots. You can watch it on a random binge.
