Plot

Upgraded is the story of Ana Santos ( Camila Mendes Camila Carrara Mendes is an American actress. She >> Read More... ), who is an ambitious and hardworking intern. Her goal is to have an art career and to be successful, she needs to work with her demanding boss Claire ( Marisa Tomei Marisa Tomei is a Television and Film actress from >> Read More... ) and her assistant Suzzzette and Renee. They have made her life a living hell, but it works in her favour. The ticketmaster feels pity for her and upgrades to first-class on her flight to London. She has her meet-cute spill her drink on the handsome and wealthy William (Archie Renaux), who mistakes her for her boss, Claire. A white lie then sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance and opportunity. Until the lies start catching up to her, threatening everything she has built over the time.

Star performance

Camila Mendes gives us a lively and spirited performance, making us root for even after the countless mistakes she made. Renaux gives us another spectacular, charming performance.

Analysis

Upgraded is a rom-com from Amazon Studies that thrives on the perceptions of “faking it till I make it” and misunderstandings. Ana gets a head start in her career with the help of William and his mum Catherine (Lena Olin), who gets her an entry into the London High Society. She balances her double life by attending auctions, multi-million dollar sales, hard-to-find challenging tickets of Midsummer Night Dream for her boss Claire and date nights with William.

When the truth comes out, she gets fired and loses William. She comes out clean with her shenanigans and with the generosity of Catherine, she is forgiven and is successful in getting her job back and gets one step closer to her career goals. Despite her career’s happiness her love life is still rocky as William refuses to forgive her. After the time jump of six months, Ana thrives in her career by opening her own Art Gallery. She throws a launch party, where William enters with a suitcase after everyone else has left.
