Plot
Shadow, a powerful hedgehog, landed in Oklahoma, and the military seized it in 1974. They used its power for various military purposes. Gerald Robotnik was the military’s head at that time. Shadow befriended Maria, Gerald’s granddaughter. They get information that Shadow would be taken from the facility by some negative sources. To avoid this, Gerald and Maria tried to escape with Shadow. But, an agent killed Maria accidentally, and Gerald was sent to prison. Shadow was kept as a suspended animation. After fifty years, Shadow was released due to a hack. Sonic reaches the earth, and Tails and Knuckles celebrate Sonic’s arrival with their adoptive parents, Tom and Maddie. What is Shadow’s connection with this family? What will it do after getting released? The rest of the film deals with this.
Star Performance
Ben Schwartz’s voice fits well for Sonic. His voice modulation is wonderful. Keanu Reeves provided his voice to Shadow and it was quite impressive. Idris Elba dubbed for Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessy lent his voice for Miles. Jim Carrey played a dual role as Dr. Ivo Robotnik and Professor Gerald Robotnik. He stands unique with his incredible performance. James Marsden played the role of Tom Wachowski, and Tika Sumpter played Maddie Wachowski, and they both did justice to the given roles. Analysis
The makers tried a lot to cater for audiences of all ages. Though there are a few good humorous scenes, not all the comedy scenes worked out. The screenplay is not consistent throughout; it is dragged a bit now and then. The visuals are impressive. The action scenes are well-planned and attractive. Super Sonic and Super Shadow’s action scenes are impressive in the climax, showcasing the weightage of the iconic characters. Though there are some good moments, the film didn’t touch the impression created by the previous instalment.
