Immaculate is an American horror mystery movie directed by Michael Mohan Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , written by Andrew Lobel, and produced by David Bernad, Sydney Sweeney Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , Jonathan Davino, Teddy Schwarzman, and Michael Heimler. The cast contains Sydney Sweeney as Cecilia, Benedetta Porcaroli as Sister Gwen, Alvaro Morte Bio coming soon... >> Read More... plays father Sal Tedeschi, Simona Tabasco plays sister Mary, Giulia Heathfield Di Renzi as sister Isabelle, Dora Romano plays Mother Superior, Giorgio Colangeli plays Cardinal Franco Merola, Cristina Chinaglia plays Sister Friede, Giampiero Judica plays Doctor Gallo, Giuseppe Lo Piccolo plays Deaco, Betty Pedrazzi plays Sister Francesca, and Niccolo Senni as a customs official.

Plot

In the beginning of the movie, we see Sister Mary praying late at night and after her prayers, she goes to Mother Superior’s room. Here she secretly steals a key chain and it was clear that sister Mary was trying to escape from the Catholic convent she was in. She immediately took this key and started opening the main door. Then suddenly, we see some hooded people behind her. Sister Mary quickly opens the door a little and somehow runs out when a hooded person grabs her leg and breaks it, causing sister Mary to lose consciousness. When she regains consciousness, she finds herself buried in a coffin with no one coming to help her. It is safe to assume that Sister Mary died in the same situation. She must have been killed in the coffin. Now from here the scene focuses on a young sister Cecilia, who has come to join a convent in Italy with a one-way ticket from US. She got this ticket from the father of the convent and not from herself. We could understand that Sicilia had been invited here by Father Salle Te Deshi and Sicilia was very eager to join this place where she used to work as a nun in the US was now closed. When Cecilia enters here through the main gate of the convent, we viewers clearly understand that this is the same convent that we saw in the first scene of the movie. Here Cecilia meets the Mother Superior who welcomes her and does the work of showing Cecilia her room, etc. Sister Isabel was a little too rude to Cecilia. she also says that she still has time to return before taking the vow this evening. What was the secret of the convent? The rest of the film revolves around it.

Star Performance

The actress did an outstanding job, she really fits the role she's playing moreover, you will be drawn into this macabre narrative by its simple execution of masterful filming and direction. the plot could have been thickened and there were some things unanswered, but for the most part, this was a perfect balance of action, gore, jump scares, and shock factor.

Analysis

Immaculate is a perfect reflection on organized religion, the female reproductive system, and women's issue in general especially regarding pregnancy and abortion which in turn reflects women's rights in the aftermath of Scotus overturning Roe V. Wade. The cinematography was well done, much of the cinematography is similar to scenes in The Handmaids Tale which leaves for some excellent and eery shots. The score and music matched the style and just the elements made you feel what the characters were feeling.

What’s There?

  • The movie is well directed with a very entertaining plot.

What’s Not There?

  •  The movie felt dragged initially, with all the scenes with the nuns and the church.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a horror film involving the dark side of Catholicism, Sydney Sweeney, and graphic, bloody shots of bodies, then this is the film for you.
