Tamil Cinema Industry has witnessed some great directors since the time of time. They differ from each other regarding their scripts and their signature style of shooting films. Directors are the heroes of the industry. It’s their efficient work that takes cinemas to a new level.

1. Mani Ratnam

Mani Ratnam is a successful director in the film industry who has always thought out of the box in his direction skills and his storyline. His films like Thalapathy starring ‘Rajinikanth’ and Shobana Chandrakumar Pillai has gained great fame with the population. The director is a perfect blend of direction; he has consistency in his stories. Though many of his movies have been difficult to understand by everybody, his direction is always of a class. This director has taken Tamil cinema to heights that not many dared to take. He started his career as an Assistant Director to ‘S. A. Chandrasekhar’. His movies like ‘Enthiran’, ‘Nanban’, ‘Boys’, ‘I’ and ‘Anniyan’ are few examples of his brilliance. Shankar has always made sure that he encounters the impossible and excels in what he does and the end product is always a blockbuster hit. It wouldn’t seem like an exaggeration to say that Shankar has not had a flop film in his entire career.

3. Atlee Kumar

It’s usual for a new director to get a demotivating response from the public. Atlee is a Tamil movie director who entered the film industry recently; He is also the youngest film maker in cinema. He had directed two films as of now “Raja Rani” and ‘Theri’, and both of these were a hit.

4. K S Ravikumar

The director has been in the industry for a long time and has directed many good films like Muthu, Padaiyappa, ‘Dasavatharam’, ‘Aadhavan’ and Manmadhan Ambu. He is a writer-director and an actor himself. His movies have a good sense of comedy, and the script is mostly different. K S Ravi Kumar is considered odd among the directors in a good sense for his cameo appearance in every movie he directs.

5. Balu Mahendra

This director is a much-respected man after K. Balachandar. He is a Srilankan who passed away last year due to health issues. 7. K. Balachander

Legends are not born, they evolve with time. K Balachandar is a man of dreams to work with for every single actor and actress in the Tamil cinema. His award list is huge; he has won 50 awards on the whole. He has directed around 80+ movies and worked in 100+ movies in the industry. His notable films are Apoorva Raagangal, Aval Oru Thodar Kathai, Sindhu Bairavi, Varumayin Niram Sigappu, and Manathil Urudhi Vendum are the famous movies that everybody enjoys watching till date. K. 9. Bala

All his stories have a strong sense of message to the society. He focuses on all the stereotypes the world we are living in, and breaks it by proving it wrong. 10. P Bharathiraja

Bharathi Raja started his direction career in 1977 and is still in the field directing many films. He is a director who loves the culture of South India. He was born near Madurai, Tamil Nadu and his could be the reason for his passion for the idea of filming village oriented films. He is popular for introducing many actors and actresses into the industry. His hit movies are '16 Vayathinile', Muthal Mariyathai, Alaigal Oivathillai, Siggapu Rojakkal, Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, and Kizhake Pogum Rail.
