Tamil Singer Nithyasree Mahadevan

Nithyasree Mahadevan is a renowned vocalist in Carnatic genre of classical music and had taken up music seriously since her childhood. She had so far lent her voice in over 750 musical albums and has participated in all major musical concerts and Sabhas that propagate the growth of Carnatic music across the world. For her performance in musical concerts, she has been awarded many degrees and honors and had been able to take forward the legacy of devotional songs penned by Gopalakrishna Bharati. Nithyasree Mahadevan holds a unique record of performance on ‘Raga Bhairavi’ for a consistent three hours program and singing a total of 17 compositions on raga Bhairavi.

This Carnatic singer has taken the path of her other mentors like D. K. Jayaraman and D. K. She has performed not only in India but across several destinations such as Singapore, Switzerland, Belgium, France and many other nations. This singer’s consistent effort has been to uplift the tradition of Carnatic music not only for music lovers but also for them who could become a staunch supporter of Carnatic music in future. Her first major public appearance has been when she was just 14 and she had performed before D. K. Pattammal, D. K. Jayaraman, and chief guest K. V. Narayanaswamy at a musical concert held on 10 August 1987.

Her first break in film playback singing was of A.R. Rahman’s composition titled ‘'Kannodu Kaanbadhellam' which was her debut song for the film 'Jeans'. She was voted as the best playback singer for this song by Tamil Nadu State Government. After instant success with her debut song, she was again offered to sing another song by A R Rahman for film ‘Padayappa’. The song from this movie "Minsara Kanna" was a top chartbuster in 1999. In the same year, she lent her voice for another A.R. Rahman’s composition from film” Sangamam” and the song titled "Sowkiyama Kanne” had catchy notes. In the year 2001, she had lent her soulful voice for a song "Manmatha Maasam" for a film ‘Parthale Paravasam’.

She has sung many title songs of popular Tamil serials that are being showcased in popular Tami television networks. Being born on 25 August 1973, she is an asset in Indian classical music and the nation can feel proud of her.
