The given name 'Nanjil' means his home locale, Kanyakumari. He resigned from AIADMK on 3 January 2017, after Sasikala was chosen, just to rejoin on 7 January 2017. When he left he declared that he was resigning from Tamil Nadu governmental issues.

He was already with Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) party in 2012 which he left to join AIADMK. He filled in as representative publicity secretary from when he joined until 1 February 2016. He has started to act in movies.
