Sivakumar (born Palanichamy) is one of the most versatile actors of current Tamil cinema. He has the pride of acting in various characters, both lead and supporting for a period spanning over four decades. Though being introduced as a supporting actor, Sivakumar was able to grasp the skills of acting quite easily. His dedication to acting is well known from his notable movies like ‘KandanKarunai’ and ‘ThunivaeThozhan’. He has more classic movies to his tally that include ‘RosapooRavikkaikaari’ , and the very famous K.Balachander’s ‘SindhuBhairavi’. He played the role of a carnatic musician who gets tangled between two women. The film went on to win 3 National awards and also made Sivakumar showcase his skills.
 
Sivakumar, who acted only in Tamil in over 200 films, is a recipient of 5 important awards. He won Filmfare awards for the best actor for the movies ‘RosapooRavikkaikari’ and ‘Vandi Chakkaram’ and a lifetime achievement award(2007). He also was the recipient of the Tamil Nadu state awards for the movies ‘AvalAdhuAvanAdhu’ and ‘Agni Sakshi’. He also hold a unique record of acting with at least three generations of actors, right from the era of SivajiGanesan and MGR to Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth to Ajith and Vijay, which is a rare feat still yet to be achieved by many old actors. He acted in famous TV serials like Chithi and Annamalai alongside RadhikaSarathkumar.
 
Sivakumar now has ventured into public speaking. He is an excellent orator known for his valuable pearls of wisdom. He awes people by his wide spread knowledge and the way he propagates it through stories and excerpts. One of his very famous quips include “Ithuvumkadanthupogum” (meaning ‘This too shall pass’).
