She was named Mangaiyarkarasi by the great Variyar Swamigal. The prefix of her name is her initial that comes from the first two letters of her father's name Devi Shanmugam. She learned Thirukkural at a very young age. Every night before about to sleep, she was taught ten Thirukkural that she had to narrate the opposite subsequent day in the morning, and that was the basis for her involvement in Tamil literature. She was a child prodigy who won awards at four years for the Kural recitation contest. She used to recite all 1330 Thirukkural by heart at a very young age of six that she believes is the foundation for a career as an 'orator.'
She was a great fanatic of Kirupananda Variyar. Variyar's speeches attracted audiences of all ages that paved the way for the bonding of Mangaiyarkarasi with her guru Variyar Swamigal. It had been an impromptu Arangetram that she never expected, and each time she knew that was concerning Thiruvalluvar and Thirukural. Variyar Swamigal himself suggested the topic "Thirukkural Idhigasamum," which was initiated by her guru. She spoke about it for 45 minutes. Seeing a six-year-old talk fluently on stage made everyone surprised.
