D Balasubramaniam

D Balasubramaniam was an Indian actor who predominantly worked in the film industry from the late 1930s through the late 1950s. His roles primarily revolved around mythology, but later, he switched to character roles. His debut film was Krishnan Thoothu, which was released in the year 1940. He worked in multiple films, including Gangavathar, Kubera Kuchela, Prabhavathi, En Magan, Valmiki, Kannika, Abhimanyu, Udayanan Vasavadatta, Gnana Soundari, Krishna Bakthi, Rathnakumar, Digambara Samiyar, Sudharshan, Kalyani, Zamindar, Ponni, En Magal, Kalvanin Kadhali, Maaman Magal, Porter Kandan, Gomathiyin Kaadhalan, Kaveri, Mayabazar, Sabaash Meena, President Panchatcharam, Thaai Magalukku Kattiya Thaali, Uzhavukkum Thozhilukkum Vandhanai Seivom, and Thilakam.

D. Balasubramaniam was an Indian film actor, who is well-known for his work in Tamil industry. He studied in Rayapuram Primary School till class 4. He married to Saraswati. She has acted in few movies including “Manonmani”. They have a son named Pasupathi. He first contributed as a writer in the industry. Later on, started his career in acting, with his first movie ‘Bhooloka Rambai’. From 1929 to 1931, he worked in Ponnusamy Pillai’s theater company. Initially, he played roles in mythological films. Later on, started playing character roles in the films.

He has played roles in several movies, including Aasi, Shabash Meena, Aadhi, Maaya Bazaar, and many more. He played the role of Sivajiganesan’s father in the film Shabash Meena. In Gemini’s hit film ‘Samcharam’, he played the role of Vanaja’s father ‘Kanakasabhapati’. In Gemini’s another hit film ‘Auvaiyar’, he played the role of Panar alongside RV Kumudini. He acted till 1960, ‘Thilakam’ being his last movie. It was directed by Krishnan–Panju.
