Vaikom Chandrasekharan Nair (1920 – 12 April 2005) was an Indian writer and journalist who mostly wrote in Malayalam. He was born in Vaikom, a small village in Kottayam district of Kerala. He began writing early in his childhood. He also became a member of the Communist Party at university. Although Vaikom was a journalist by profession, he was a man of many talents throughout his life, working as a poet, actor, novelist, dramatist, speaking, singing, drama, and working.
He edited many magazines- Janayugam, Malayala Manorama, Kerala Bhooshanam, Kaumudi, Pourraprabha, Kunkumam, Chithrakarthika, Kumari, and Keralam. Some famous books like Nakhangal, Panchavankadu, and Madhavikkutty have become award-winning films. The play Jathugriham won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980. He served as the Principal of Sangeetha Nadaka College, Kerala, from 1978 to 1981. In 1999, Vaikkom was awarded the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his lifetime contributions.
Vaikkom wrote more than 60 books during his life. Some of his famous works are Kuttavum Shikshayum Alohari, Tanneerpanthal, Mrs. Mayavathy, Nakhangal, Panchavankadu, Madhavikkutty, Smrithikavyam, Ashramam, Mamanka rathri, Jathugrihavham (biographical drama (film), Kayente Vamsham, Swathi Thirunal).
