K.P.A.C Lalitha is known for her character Mayavathi Amma in the super hit comedy serial ‘Thattiyum Muttiyum.’ She is one of the finest actors of Malayalam Cinema and Serials, known for her acting in very distinctive and versatile roles in hundreds of movies. She has won National Award twice for the movies Amaram (directed by her husband) in 1991, and Shantam in 2000. She has also won several state awards and many television awards.
In 2013, her autobiography Kadha Tudarum won the Cherukad award. She was born as Maheshwari Amma in 1947, in Alappuzha, Kerala, India. She is a part of the Malayalam Cinema Industry as well as Tele Serial Industry. She began her career at the age of 10 by acting in plays. Her first play was Geethayude Bali. Later she joined K.P.A.C a renowned drama troupe in Kerala. K.P.A.C Lalitha became her screen-name once she joined the movies. Her first movie was an adaptation of a very popular K.P.A.C drama Koottukudumbam.
She got married in 1978 to Bharathan, an acclaimed Malayalam Film Director. She took a break from doing films after her marriage to raise her two children Siddharth and Sree kutty, only to return to acting in later years doing more roles that are powerful. She is known for humor and serious roles. She is much praised for her role in Kodiyettam, Manichithratazhu, Vadakunokki Yanthram, Malooty, Vietnam Colony, Venkalam to name a few. She took a break from movies again when she lost her husband in 1998. She was brought back to acting by Satyan Anthikad giving her a powerful role in Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal in 1999.
