Kumarakom Raghunath was once known as the superstar of Malayalam Television Industry. In 2014, Atlas Film Critics Award for television programmes awarded him the Best Actor title for playing his role in Penmanasu, a serial telecasted on Surya TV. He began his acting career as an amateur drama artist at the age of 15. By seeing his performance in the drama titled Acharya, the director of the drama, N.N. Pillai insisted him to join in his drama troupe. For the next 18 years, Kumarakom Raghunath was molded into a fine drama artist. Meanwhile, he even formed his own drama troupe named Keli. Later when serials started getting popular on Doordarshan, he began acting in the lead roles in tele serials. His first serial was with the famous director Shaji Yem. He found himself portraying versatile characters in television. Scooter was one such hit serial of his on Doordarshan. He became very popular among the television audience in the 90’s. In fact, he was called the Mammootty (Mega star of Malayalam film industry) of Tele serials. His movies include Mayaponman, Nakshatratarattu and F.I.R. Later, he took a break from acting for about six years. He came back to the Television serial industry in 2011 acting in Ammakili with movie actress Seema. He is also a part of the Serial Amma as Vidyasagar, telecasted on Asianet.
