Priya R Pai is an Indian Malayalam playback singer, music composer, Carnatic musician & vocalist, and music teacher. On February 3, 1976, she was born in Idukki District, Kerala, India. She went to NSS College, Trivandrum in Cotton Hills GHS, Mar Ivanios College, and Women’s College Trivandrum. She earned a degree in both Maths and Music. Also, she did her post-graduation in music. Later, she got her training in Carnatic Music from Valiyammal (also known as Pattu Maami), who lived at Karamana. Also, she was trained in music under Sree Varkala C.S Jayaram and Sree N.P Ramaswamy. She was among those lucky students to receive a National talent search scholarship from the Central Government from 1988 to 1992.
She was born and raised in a family of musicians, and her father was a Mridangam Vidwan. She is the elder sister of Praveena, a singer. She married Ramesh Pai VP, with whom she has two daughters, namely Shradha R Pai and Shreya R Pai. Both of her daughters are singers. Priya R Pai is well-known for Carnatic western fusion music, of which she has released five popular albums. Also, she has sung and composed more than thirty classical fusion albums. She has received a Senior Scholarship from Human Resources Development from the Central Government of India. Also, she was the recipient of Kalady Sree Sankara School of Music and Dance for Carnatic Music. She has received coveted prizes from various competitions in and outside Kerala. Priya R Pai hosted a musical television show, ‘Laya Tharang,’ on Kairali We channel. She sang the title song for the famous television show ‘Kadhayallithu Jeevitham’ on the Amrita channel. Priya launched a YouTube series named Sreshtah, which takes you on a musical trip to various temples in Kerala, each having unique folklores, myths, history, and origin. In 2004, she founded a music school named “Saveri School of Music” at Edappally, Ernakulam. The school has branches at Thevakkal, Ernakulam, and Bengaluru, where more than two hundred students are trained.
