Mallika Sukumaran is a yesteryear actress who debuted in 1974 in the movie Uttarayanam directed by G. Aravindan. She was born in 1954 in Haripad, Alappuzha district, Kerala. She married the late actor Sukumaran in the year 1979 and withdrew from the film industry to devoted her time for her family until her husband’s death in 1997.
She made a comeback with a K.K. Rajeev Teleserial Paithozhiyathe with notable actors like Thilakan and Jayabharathi. After that she did not have to look back, she continued acting in many serials portraying both positive and negative characters. Some of her noted serials during that time were Valayam,

She also started to work in movies and have done many character roles with many prominent directors. In the movie Ammakilikoodu, her role as Saramma, an inmate in an old age home, who had been a head constable during her prime years was very much appreciated. She has two sons who are well-known Actors in Malayalam film industry, Indrajith, and Prithviraj. Her Eldest daughter-in-law Poornima is an actress and a Fashion Designer and her younger daughter-in-law Supriya worked as BBC correspondent from Mumbai. She has three grandchildren with whom she likes to spend most of her time. She was honored with Kerala state award for supporting actress in Swapanadanam in 1974.
