After receiving severe criticism for his latest directorial L2: Empuraan, there have been reports that not everything is well between Mohanlal and the makers, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is the director of the film.

According to Mallika, Prithviraj is being unfairly targeted, and being made the scapegoat for something he didn’t commit.

L2: Empuraan has been the target of several critics, both online and offline, for its one-sided take on the 2002 Gujarat carnage. This has also affected the box office revenue of the movie, which despite beginning on a brilliant note, is struggling to recover its original costs of 180 crore.

The current controversy about L2: Empuraan has put a major dent on the otherwise brilliant profile of Prithviraj Sukumaran. The actor cum filmmaker had a relatively good 2024, with the lone exception of the Hindi movie Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan turning out to be a commercial washout. The other movies, Aadujeevitham and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, turned out to be huge commercial successes.
