Dinesh Prabhakar, whose birth name is
, is predominantly a Malayalam actor who has also acted and worked as a technician in movies of other languages. He was born in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. From an early age, he was interested in performing arts and would watch movies on Doordarshan Channel and at cinema halls in his vicinity.
His Alma maters are Sree Sankara College and Jayakeralam School. In 1990, he viewed a Mohanlal starrer Aryan which inspired him so much that he dropped out of his college and came to Mumbai to try his luck in acting. In Mumbai, he took up job with a newspaper office and a courier service to support himself.
After much struggle, he bagged few roles in various stage shows and theatre in Hindi, English, and Marathi plays. Later, he got fascinated by the world of advertising and veered towards it. In fact, he has also opened an advertising agency owing to satisfy his passion for it.
He then bagged the role of the male protagonist's friend in Meesa Madhavan, which was also his big screen debut. After Meesa Madhavan, offers began to pour in, and he did few of them. However, all of them were small roles and not a full-fledged one.
He has worked in more than thirty-five films and has also collaborated with talented people like Lal Jose, Madhupal, Martin Prakkat, Kumar Nanda, Aneesh Upasana, Babu Janardhanan, Aji John, Arun Kumar Aravind, Biju Varkey, Santosh Nair, Abrid Shine, Vineeth Kumar, Vishnu Prasad, Balaji Mohan, Alphonse Puthren, Thomas Sebastian, Salim Ahamed, Vinay Govind,Bash Mohammed, Basil Joseph, Bejoy Nambiar, V K Prakash, G. Marthandan, Arun Vishwam, Sanoob Anil, Jeethu Joseph, Raja Krishna Menon, and much more.
He has acted in films like Karutha Pakshikal, Namukku Parkkan, Best Actor, Mullassery Madhavan Kutty Nemom P. O., God for Sale, Beware of dogs, Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum, Left Right Left, Jacobinte Swargarajyam, Money Ratnam, Ayal Njanalla, Lukka Chuppi, Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram, Jamna Pyari, Kavi Uddheshichathu..?, Monsoon Mangoes, Two Countries, Madras Cafe, Pattalam, Rappakal, Swapnakoodu, Rasikan, Thalappavu, Matinee, Aagathan, Orange, 1983, Kohinoor, Pathemari, Kunjiramayanam, Premam, Kolumittayi, Kolamass, Paavada, and Oozham.
Dinesh has also toiled as a casting director, production executive and has dubbed for actors like Prabhu Deva and Makarand Deshpande in some films. In fact, the Malayalam people referred to him as the Nawazuddin Siddiqui of their industry. He has also won the National Awards' Special Jury Mention for his work in Lukka Chupi.
