OK Johnny worked as a media activist, writer, documentary director, and also a film critic, who was born on 22nd August; 1957 in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad. He completed his education from Sultan Bathery, Payyannur, and Mysore. He used to do research independently in South Indian history, since 2002. He was not only a journalist but also has directed nine documentaries with the state and won many national awards. He directed his first film, “The Trapped,” which was created by the President for his outstanding anthropological film. “Silent's Creams in a Village Chronicle” was his second film which won the President's Award for Best Film in 1997, which features social issues and the Kerala Sansthan Award (2015) for the Best Documentary Film. He has also directed a biographical documentary called Portrait of Ck Janu, which was produced by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust and gets telecasted on Doordarshan's National network. He started journalism as a reporter in Kerala Kaumudi and the Press Trust of India (PTI). Not only this, but he was also the editor of the first Agro-environment magazine (agriculture) published in Bangalore. After that, he turns into the editorial chief of Mother Earth Books. Currently, he is in research on Jain-Buddhist culture in South India.
