V M Vinu is a famous director in Malayalam Film Industry. He is popularly known for directing Balettan. He was born in Kozhikode, Kerala. His father was a dramatist and an acclaimed novelist. During school days, he was active in dramas hosted by All Indian Radio like M.Mukundan's 'Mayyazhi Puzhayude Theerangalil' and S.K.Pottekad's 'Oru Desathinte Katha'. He finished his degree course from the University of Calicut and completed Bachelor of Theatre Arts from the School of Drama, Kozhikode. In college, he was awarded the best director and actor for rendering extraordinary performances in cultural activities. V M Vinu has a daughter, Varsha and a son, Varun. Varsha had acted as Mammootty’s daughter in Vesham. He entered the world of cinema as an assistant director and worked in seven movies. He also worked as an associate director in eight movies, such as Sooryamanasam, Abhyam, 'Ore thooval pakshigal’ and more. Later he did thirteen films as an independent director. He has worked with eminent actors of Malayalam. Vinu directed Vesham, and Mammootty had played the mail role in it.
The film garnered success at the box office, and the actor was complimented for delivering another outstanding performance after the success of Kaazcha. Appu is a business man, and in the film, he sacrifices his life for his younger brother. He is a family man, but a workaholic. Appu’s brother, Hari graduates in management from London and comes back homeland to marry Revathy. The story takes a turn when Hari accidentally kills Deepak, but he later confesses to his elder brother. Balettan was another film of Vinu, which was a huge hit at the box office. The plot of the film was based on the story of Balettan (essayed by Mohanlal), who always intends to serve the society. It won the Kaveri Film Critics' Award and was also remade in the Telugu language as Rajababu.
