Sreekumaran Thampi is a director, producer, lyricist, and screenwriter. He is known for his performances mainly in Malayalam cinema. Sreekumaran was born on March 16, 1940. He debuted in the Malayalam industry as a lyricist in the year 1966 by P. Subramaniam in the movie Kaattumallika. He has written more than a thousand songs, produced 22 films, written scripts for around 78 movies and directed 29 films. Sreekumaran believes that he is more of a lyricist than a producer. His works as a composer include "Hridayasarasile pranayapushpame", Chandrikayilaliyunna Chandrakaantham", Swonthamenna padathinendhartham.
He has also written four novels and several poems. He usually writes about romantic love. Thampi was born to Kalarikkal Krishna Pillai and Karimpalayathu Bhavaniamma Thangachi in Harippad, Alappuzha District. He studied in Haripad government school and is a Civil Engineer with qualifications. He did B.Tech degree from Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur. His works include Jeevitham Oru Gaanam (1979), Venalil Oru Mazha, Swandam Enna Padam, Ammakkorumma, Enikkum Oru Divasam, Chandrakantham and many more. For one of his movie, Kanakkum Kavitayum he won the National Award and won two state awards for Gaanam and Mohiniyattam.
