P Chandrakumar

P Chandrakumar is a Malayalam film director. He was born and brought up in Kollengode, Palakkad district in Kerala. He used to perform Kathakali in front of tourists in Kollengode. Vasu Menon the founder of Vasu films Company, recognized P Chandrakumar as the Kathakali performer at Kollengode Palace, and he invited him to film industry; this was the breakthrough incident of his life. In 1971 P. Bhaskaran directed Ummachu, in which P.Chandrakumar was the assistant director; this was the beginning of his career when he was only 14 years old.

He was introduced to Madhu in the sets of Ummachu, who later on produces and acted in many films directed by P Chandrakumar. Before becoming a director, he worked under the assistance of 13 other directors. His first debut film as a director was a black and white movie, “Manassoru Mayil” when he was only 19. “Anubhoothikalude Nimisham” was his first commercially successful movie.

In1970s he introduced soft porn culture to the Malayalam industry when he directed "Adipapam", which was an erotic film, and it performed extremely well at the box-office; this movie started the trend of soft porn culture in Malayalam film industry. He not only a film director but a cinematographer and film distributor. He is married to Jayanthi who is a Doctor by profession and blessed with two children, his younger brother P Sukumar also work in the Malayalam film industry as a cinematographer.
