Balachandra Menon has various feathers to his caps including actor, distributor, director, script writer, music composer, singer, producer and editor. He predominantly concentrates on Malayalam cinema. The 1980s and 90s were heydays in his career. He has the credit of gaining the National Award for his good performance as a lead actor in the 1998 flick Samaantharangal. This flick is also his directorial venture.
Menon has the credit of introducing actors and actresses in the Malayalam film industry including Shobana, Maniyan Pillai Raju, Annie, Karthika and Nandini. His films that set the cash registers ringing during the early 1980s were Chiriyo Chiri, Prasnam Gurutharam and Kaaryam Nissaram.
Born on 11th January 1954, Menon lived in his childhood in a village. He was very fascinated towards the film industry. Menon tried to study in Madras Film Institute, but this didn’t fructify. In fact, his other dream of becoming a lawyer was fulfilled only late. Menon has a diploma in journalism to his credit.
Menon had written an autobiography Ammayaane Sathyam. Menon has received various awards including the prestigious Padma Shri., National award and state award. In his profession of three decades, Menon was keen on joining films since his college days. Menon debuted with the 1978 flick Uthrada Rathri. Here he took the role of direction. He was successful as an actor and writer too. He tried his luck in different roles and became a famous actor in Malayalam film industry. He is still remembered for his comedy films.
