Jayamala is a south Indian actress, who made her career in Kannada films. She made her entry in 1970s and the 1980s which are often considered to be the golden age of Kannada cinema. She also wrote her thesis on rehabilitation of rural woman and got a doctorate from Bangalore University. S was honored with the doctorate by the late President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. She shared her screen space with many great Kannada stars, including Ambareesh, Vishnu Vardhan, Shankar Nag and Rajkumar. Her maiden attempt as a producer, for the film Thaayi Saaheba, turned successful.
