B. Saroja Devi is an Indian actress born on 7 January 1938 in Karnataka to Rudramma and Bhairappa.Her father worked in the Police department. B.Saroja Devi has acted in Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu movies. She debuted with the film Mahakavi Kalidasa in 1955 for which she won a National Award. She was cast always opposite the much sought after stars in the film industry, Such stars are Dr. Rajkumar, ANR, NTR MGR, , Sivaji Ganeshan, S.S.Rajendran. After this she started getting offers from Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu films. She was working more than 20 hours a day in this peak period of her career she is called as "Kannadathu Paingili" by Tamil film industry and as "Abinaya Saraswathi" by Kannada Film Industry. She has acted in more than 150 movies in a period of six decades. Saroja Devi is one of the few most successful female film stars in the Indian cinema history and she was at the height of her career as the main female lead actress in movies in the period between 1958 to 1985.She became the highest paid actress in Kannada films from 1970-1980.B. Saroja Devi received critical acclaims for her roles throughout her career.

B. Saroja Devi holds the world record for acting in the most number of consecutive movies as the lead heroine as many as 161 movies from 1955 to 1984, without even playing supporting roles. She is also known for the longest career as the main lead female actress in Indian films for 29 years from 1955 to 1984.Kannada film 'Sri Renukadevi Mahathme', released in 1977 was Saroja Devi's 150th film in her career. She received the Padma Sri in 1969 and Padma Bhushan in 1992 from the Government of India.

Saroja Devi married an engineer by profession in 1967.She has two adopted children, daughter Indira and a son Ramachandran. Her daughter was named after Indira Gandhi and her son is named after actor M.G.R.
